As the Department of the Air Force accelerates digital transformation and adopts AI-enabled cyber capabilities, the need for Airmen and Guardians who understand both digital networks and the operational technologies that support mission execution has never been greater. While artificial intelligence can enhance cyber defense through automation, analytics, and decision support, human operators must still understand the physical systems, mission dependencies, and operational consequences that cyber attacks can create.
The HAF/A4 Cyber Resiliency Office for Control Systems (CROCS) sponsored a specialized Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity training program designed to prepare control system security specialists to defend industrial control systems, building automation systems, and other mission-critical infrastructure. Through hands-on exercises involving programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), industrial networking, and cyber-physical attack scenarios, participants develop practical skills that bridge the gap between traditional IT cybersecurity and operational technology security.
This presentation will discuss lessons learned from multiple course offerings, curriculum design considerations, and alignment with emerging Department of War cyber workforce requirements. Attendees will gain insight into how targeted OT cybersecurity education can support workforce development, mission assurance, and the preparation of the next generation of Digital Warriors.
