Description

Digital transformation fails when technology outpaces people. The 20th Fighter Wing AI Accelerator Task Force learned early that building AI tools was the easy part — the harder mission was ensuring every Airman, regardless of technical background, could actually use them.

This session presents Shaw AFB's ground-up model for building an AI-fluent wing workforce — developed by a six-person cross-functional team spanning plans, security forces, software engineering, and executive support, operating with no dedicated training budget, no formal curriculum authority, and no additional manning. When two team members deployed on short notice mid-tasking, the remaining team absorbed the mission and maintained full delivery momentum across the installation.

Attendees will walk away with:

  • A replicable wing-level AI adoption model built on demand-sensing rather than top-down mandates — including a QR code-based inquiry tracking system integrated with automated workflows to identify which squadrons needed support most and measure engagement over time
  • A case study in community-specific AI integration — including a dedicated session delivered to 20 Judge Advocate personnel combining a focused AI orientation presentation with individualized one-on-one support to help each team member develop custom personas, functional datasets, and personal AI strategies tailored to their specific role
  • Practical lessons from delivering AI training across 30+ wing personnel spanning every major functional area — with real work problems solved in real time during each session
  • The Persona Architect framework — a meta-tool developed to allow any Airman to build a mission-accurate, high-quality AI persona without technical expertise, dramatically lowering the barrier to meaningful AI adoption at the individual level
  • An honest assessment of the cultural and organizational friction points encountered when introducing AI at the wing level — and the strategies that worked to move personnel from skepticism to confident daily use

The fight for the digital edge is not won by the few Airmen who already understand AI. It is won when every Airman has the tools, the training, and the confidence to use it. Shaw AFB's model shows how to get there — starting with six Airmen, a shared drive, and a QR code.
