The Hardening, Standardization and Optimization (HSO) initiative is a critical, multi-flight capability executed by specialized engineering teams from the 38th Engineering Squadron (38 ES). These teams deploy to Air Force installations to conduct in-depth vulnerability and performance analyses across both NIPR and SIPR networks. The primary objective goes beyond simple assessment; the focus is on the immediate, real-time remediation of vulnerabilities prioritized by their threat to mission assurance. By systematically targeting network terrain, boundary architectures, and directory services, this initiative proactively hardens Department of the Air Force Information Network (DAFIN) terrain, reduces the adversarial attack surface, and secures mission-critical weapons systems against cyber threats.
